Nicole Barlow began her geology career with the British Columbia Geological Survey, where she performed laboratory work, fieldwork, research, technical writing, and editing. After a brief stint at the BC Offshore Oil and Gas Division, she received her B.Sc. in earth sciences and geography from the University of Victoria. Shortly thereafter, she founded Purple Rock Editing, her own geologic editing company. Based in Victoria, British Columbia, Purple Rock Editing performs geologic editing and document management. After two years, Purple Rock Editing employs three full-time subcontractors. Barlow and her team are working with the BC Geological Survey on a project to index and archive more than 100,000 geologic maps and documents. In addition, Barlow is actively pursuing other editing endeavors. She became a member of the AESE in 2005, coordinates the "Pubs Crawl" column in Blueline, and is a member of the membership development committee. In her spare time, Barlow enjoys creating new baking experiments and devouring well-written fiction.
